Another aspect of the changing culture was women’s dress. This change in clothing could also be
seen in West’s movies through her proactive and bawdy dress. In her movies, West >
wears very tight clothes that show off her curvy figure well and which cause her to have an
abundant amount of cleavage. In her movie, I’m No Angel, the clothing that West wears
when her charter Tira is first introduced it quite proactive and revealing. When Tira
(West’s character) first makes her appearance on the screen, she is adorned with diamonds and
jewels and even a crown. West liked to be very flashy to be noticed. Tira’s dress is very
tight, and patches of the material are colored to match her skin, leaving ones to imagine her
semi naked as she performs. This can be seen in the picture below:
This very idea of provocative clothing was another very important similarity to the
movies and the 1930s. Even though women were not wearing things that were as proactive as
what West was wearing, the idea of a much sexier way of dress was certainly becoming
dominate at the time when West’s movies were coming out. Women were wearing much
shorter skirts and shirts with the collar line significantly lower then it had been in the past.
This clothing styles can be seen in her other movies as well. Women of the time were still
suppose to be dressing prim and proper, and not changing to a more revealing style of clothing.
